Mission
CORA's mission is to end domestic violence and abuse in San Mateo County through intervention and prevention. We provide comprehensive services to end the inter-generational cycle of domestic abuse.

Services
• 24-hr Support Line in Spanish and English with capabilities for third-party translations in other languages. Call 1-800-300-1080

• Shelter & Transitional Housing CORA provides the only domestic violence emergency shelter and transitional housing in San Mateo County.

• Counseling & Support Groups in Spanish, English, & Tagalog. We offer short-term crisis counseling, and drop-in groups.

• Crisis Intervention Counseling offers 3-5 sessions for women and teen survivors of domestic violence.

• Legal Services Our team of family law attorneys and advocates provides assistance with restraining orders and related family law matters, and also provides support for survivors whose partners are being prosecuted in the criminal justice system. Legal Information Hotline (650) 259-1855.

• The Emergency Response Program is CORA’s partnership with San Mateo County Law Enforcement aimed at intervening in the cycle of violence by providing on-the-scene counseling and support. 911 domestic violence calls are referred to our 24-hour on-call counselor advocates. Advocates will speak to the involved parties of domestic disturbances, and provide a follow up call within a week of the incident. Advocates also speak to teen witnesses ages 13 to 20 about safety issues and options.

• Children’s Program Children entering the Shelter are often significantly traumatized. The process of healing is challenging given that they are often incapable of expressing their experiences, emotions and fears. Since art and play are a child’s native languages these methods are employed to engage the children and begin the healing process. Children’s groups within the community are also held weekly in tandem with the Spanish support group, enabling the needs of both the children and mothers to be met.

• Community Education Program Trained educators provide information on dating violence, healthy relationships, and domestic violence prevention with workshops throughout the county. Educators also attend health fairs and community events to disseminate brochures and domestic violence prevention literature.
